Most STDs can be "silent," causing no noticeable symptoms.
· More than half of all people will have an STD/STI at some point in their lifetime.
· The estimated total number of people living in the US with a viral STD/STI is over
65 million.
· One in two sexually active persons will contact an STD/STI by age 25.
· One out of 20 people in the United States will get infected with hepatitis B (HBV) some
time during their lives. Hepatitis B is 100 times more infectious than HIV.
· It is estimated that as many as one in five Americans have genital herpes, a lifelong (but
manageable) infection, yet up to 90 percent of those with herpes are unaware they have it.
· Over 6 million people acquire HPV each year, and by age 50, at least 80 percent of women
will have acquired genital HPV infection.
· Each year, there are almost 3 million new cases of chlamydia, many ofwhich are in
adolescents and young adults.

New Student, New Direction, New to Blogging

So here's the deal . . .
Part of my new life (as a student) requires me to set up a public health blog focused on whatever topic I'm interested in. I've decided that I'm still trying to figure out what I'm interested in or at least expand on my understanding of various health issues, so here you will be able to find all sorts of health information that I think is interesting. If you have anything to add or learn something new and want to share please feel free . . . I'm pretty busy but hope I can keep you somewhat entertained and informed.
